Publishers

What is in this for publishers

  • a chance to see new manuscripts that are reviewed and tested in the market, but have print rights available
  • increasing interest in books generally
  • research has shown that an ebook version of a book drives up print copy sales
  • wider following for authors, series etc.

Publishers benefit principally therefore in three ways from the Worldwide Library, firstly one of our primary objectives is to increase interest in books, secondly by working to get some books by your authors included you will create a wider audience for them and more sales and thirdly by being able to identify work that is appreciated and can be published.

By making ebooks available without charge we increase availability and the opportunity for people to sample a wider selection of material. By arranging a version as a printable version in A4 magazine style we are able to show people who would not have thought of reading a whole book, that many books are no larger than a magazine they would happily read, and even the largest book is smaller in volume than a large Sunday newspaper. This you will see is the opposite to spreading the text out and using bulky paper to make it look larger.

Within our system, books will be able to be found in a number of ways including by author, and all book pages will link back to the authors. Within the authors page we will include every title we are able to identify by that author, and link those we have on the system. This means that a a reader spotting a new book in the book club section, get a free book, likes it, can go to the authors page and find out what other books by that author is available. Some hopefully will be on the system complete with reviews while others they will need to get from a commercial ebook site or in paper form. We also expect books with good reviews to be bought in large numbers in a printed form. Ebooks are not going to replace printed books, in the same way as computers have never reduced manpower required in offices or the amount of paperwork produced.

Very many of the books in our system will be able to be published, and we will show a symbol on the book page where this is known to be an option. Authors or copyright holders are under no obligation to us, beyond the licence they have granted us, and are at liberty to make any arrangement with you in relation to publishing. Where you want to publish an out of copyright text from our archive, we can supply this in exchange for a donation.
