ConstructionIntroductionYou do not need to know any of the information below as the index site takes care of getting you to the right place, but we have included this information as it may help those who are interested to understand how this large system actually works. We can use our web sites as main sites and sub webs that operate as the equivalent of another web, therefore if we chose to set up www.worldwide-library.net, and to set up a range of sub webs such as www.a1.worldwide-libraray.net to www.z9.worldwide-libraray.net then these would each be a separate web site we could use. Given that we can put an unlimited number of these sites up against an unlimited number of main web site addresses, there is no limit to the number of web sites we can have. The advantage is in capacity and keeping download speeds up as high as possible, but an index site is necessary to direct people to the appropriate site and automatically spread the load in some cases. Main system sitesIndex site www.worldwide-library.com Entry point and used to get to site you want to use and eventually will have a weighted random generator to spread load across mirror sites for downloading books. Home site (this web site) www.worldwide-library.org All about the organization, how it works, development, and how to get involved. This is intended to be the public reference site for all who want to use or become involved at any level. Developers site www.world-wide-library.org and sub sites (many), is for volunteers, editors, authors etc, plus test sites. Mirror-master www.worldwide-library.net this is the site all mirror sites will download and get updates from. (www.worldwidelibrary.net will be a second copy of this site, others will be added to cope with capacity requirements.) Libraries to useYou will get access to the books through one of the mirror sites, these can be set up by anyone, library, local authority etc and updated free from our mirror master. From a users perspective who is not using a site that includes a mirror, they will enter the index site and select a library to download from and will be taken to a suitable mirror site. This will be done in proportion to available capacity on sites, so as to give high response speeds. They will if they wish also be able to select an individual mirror site that they prefer. We will also be providing a number of mirror sites. Servers can be organized at different speeds a standard one, a silver with 5 times the capacity and speed and a gold with 10 times the capacity and speed. We will be able to reallocate and load more servers and upgrade to faster servers as demand requires, but the following is the initial servers we will have on line ourselves. We are looking for sponsors for more. Worldwide-library.org.uk (Gold)
